We signed Chase up as much for the organized activity without Mom or Dad
being in charge as for the sport itself. He is only 4 and it is a 3-4
year old peewee t-ball. But he needs some exposure to this type of
thing as he is getting ready for preschool in the fall. He had a melt
down to be nice about it on the first game. It was the first day of
Karlie watching the kids at our house for the summer (she did last
summer but that was a long time ago for him and she is only doing it two
days a week this summer). So it was a new thing for him and Callie was
at the Beahula Bible School that morning so his comfort was gone (my
camera died so I do not have pics of her VBS program but she loved it
there again this year!) ANYWAY Chase had a long new day and did not
nap. He fell asleep on the way to the game. He was having NO PART of
it. To the point that after one inning of watching we just left. I
didn't know what to do but I felt we didn't handle it well. So hard to
know how to parent each kid who is so different. He just would not do
anything no matter. He is four so obviously we didn't care if he played
t-ball. But at the same time it would be such a good experience for
him, he would have fun, and most important we couldn't let him think if
he was uncomfortable/shy/whatever that he could just throw a fit like
that and he his way. He was a mess at home but after we called it a
night and i had them in the bath he started to calm down. We talked a
lot about how we were not mad he didn't play but upset with his
actions. He cutely said he was sorry and he would do it the next game.
WE would see. Day after next he was still all about it and got ready
on his own (he had even fought getting ready the first day). John and
Linda kept Callie and Cole home so it was just Shannon, Chase and I.
Got there and the first game was still going on so they were practicing
over to the side. He would do nothing - just hide behind me. Not
throwing a fit but not doing anything. We just let him go. His team
was up to bat first and he was first batter. He got his helmet on and
got his bat but would not go up without me. I walked out about half way
there but told him he had to go up and hit it. He wouldn't so I told
him we couldn't hold up the game and it would have to be someone else's
turn cause they couldn't wait on us........he went up and batted! No
clue. But he went up to Brady - his coach-and batted. Once he hit the
ball he would not run without me. So I went to first and stayed by the
other dug out. He was so happy. And after that there was not looking
back. I thought man I don't want to run to second but the asst coach
ran with him and he was good. I went back to our dug out at third and
he ran to third and then home - once he realized what home was - guess
we took for granted he knew that! Once it was time to go out in field
he went to second base fine. And he was good the next inning. Good
the next game. By the next game we all went to watch him and he played
the pitcher position. He was so confused that he needed him helmet and
his glove on but once we got that down he did really well. The best
comment was when he said that the helmet made his head feel like it was
going to tip over.
Playing in the dirt?
My Callie is growing up and changing. I was so surprised when she went out to play with some boys from her class one evening at Chase's game. She is in the green/yellow.
The snow cones at the end of the games were just the motivation Chase needed! So each night we ended with a mouth like this!
