Fun to remember

This has been the summer of swim lessons for Callie.  She is loving it.  After the first two weeks she moved up a class.  She was hoping after the next two weeks to move again but didn't.  So she is in week 5 now and I am sure she will move up after this two week session.  She has taken lessons for the two years previously but was always very timid.  This year she is all about it and loving it.  She really wants to learn to dive.  Thankfully Grandma Linda shuttles her to the lessons most days.  On Friday I was off and went with her for the playday last day of the two week session.  By the end of the 45 minutes she was jumping off the diving board and spinning around before going into the water.  She has good form from gymnastics.  She has also made great progress in gymnastics lately.  She is getting so much braver.  I think some competitiveness may also play a part.  One night at gymnastics it was just her and another girl.  Callie has good form but it often nervous/scared so the other girl went first on the high beam and the teacher had her do kicks.  When it was Callie's turn and she looked scared the teacher said you don't have to do kicks just walk.  Callie proceeded to do kicks all the way across :-)

Chase loves the peacocks but is slightly scared of them - they move fast if they want to.  So he often says "peacock no get me."
Chase loved the fireworks but was very content on a lap for the fireworks.  He moved from one lap to another but was not getting down.
The electricity went off the other night when the kids were in the bath and it was really dark in that little bathroom.  I told Callie to hold Chase's hand while I went to get a flashlight.  When I got back with the flashlight to get them out Chase said it was "Big Dark"
When he got up from his nap one day I took his sheets off to wash and then went to get our sheets too.  He looked at me and said "You pee you bed too?"
Poor Chase has been to the doctor almost weekly this summer I think.  He started out with a sinus infection, then the antibiotics gave him a rash/sore private area, then he got something in his eye and after an afternoon of no luck we went to quick care and had his eye flushed out (still no idea what that was).  Following that on the weekend of the forth he had a strange bite looking place on his inner thigh area.  We watched it and by Monday night I knew it was the staff infection that he had almost exactly a year ago.  Got in first thing Tuesday (day after a holiday weekend).  Just overnight it had gotten so yucky and was also starting in a bite on his ankle.  That stuff is so gross and so very painful.  Poor guy had a rough week kicking that.  But we were finally thru with that and it was Saturday morning.  Shannon was ready to take him to the farm show.  Callie wanted eggs so she was working on making them.  It is so different with having an older sibling.  Chase has to be right there too.  I used to worry so about him getting burnt cause he was always right there with us but now he knows better - or should.  I took the pan off the burner turned to him and said "that is very hot, do not touch it or you will have to go to the hospital".  He laid his hand right on the burner.  Scared me to death.  He immediately starts screaming "I no want to go to the hospital".  It blistered it good on the index finger and the top of the palm.  He was pretty upset for awhile that morning.  My mom came down and she took over rocking him and he fell asleep so she was able to put some aloe medicine on it.  When he woke up he was good to go again.  It looks so painful but he uses it like nothing and very rarely complains of it at all.  If we can just keep infection out of it now.
Callie was so worried about Chase after he burnt his hand.  She put on a "reenactment" of his favorite hoho choochoo shows - mickey saves santa and the mickey train show.  He wasn't too interested but it was so cute!  And shows how much we have watched those two mickey shows ;-)
Shannon took him to the farm show on Sunday and he LOVED it (I think Shannon did too).  Wish I would have sent the camera.  The 100 degree weather was too much for Callie and I.  We went to church :-)

Fun in Independence

Saturday, July 9th we headed to my cousin Karen's house in the afternoon.  They live on the way to Independence.  We toured their house and visited.  Karen is 8 months pregnant so they stayed home while we went to the zoo.  It didn't have too many animals but it was free and fun for the kids.
After the zoo Karen's family met up with us at a Mexican restaurant.  Then we headed back to the park area.  I was so impressed.  It was a great place for the kids and we had a great time together.  We definitely plan to do it more often.
Riding the train - Chase's favorite

I am sitting in front to keep Chase seated and snapped this picture.                                                         Chase and Jenna, Callie and Ellen, Shannon, Karen, Doug.

Top of the slide

Too slow!

Waiting for the carousel to stop.  Rode this many times at a nickel a ride.

Playing mini golf.

Guarding the water.  It was HOT!

One last train ride - the girls had to sit together so Chase was stuck with me.  Good thing Ellen and Jenna are going to have a baby brother soon!

4th of July

Saturday, July 2nd we all went to mom and dad's.  The weather didn't cooperate too well for many evening fireworks but it was a nice time together.
Monday, July 4th we went to Shannon's Uncle Jr's house for a cookout in the evening.  We went to the Pittsburg fireworks afterwards.  We considered me staying home with Chase since it was so late but decided to give it a try.  He loved it but was so sleepy.  He kept dosing off.  This is the first year Callie really got into doing the fireworks.  Shannon has continued to shoot off fireworks several evenings.  Chase's new favorite is playing with the smoke bombs.

Great Grandparents

We went to Iola to my Grandparents.  This is just a few of my cousins' kids.  Joni is the oldest and was the flower girl at our wedding.  She was great with the kids!  I actually got to sit and visit!  Chase LOVED her.
